History
This department was first formed in the form of two departments of tissue and embryology and department of anatomy in Semnan University of Medical Sciences in 1988.
Then, two groups were merged and the Anatomical Sciences Department was formed in 1995, which is considered one of the most basic and important basic science departments of the university. Currently, it has 7 full-time faculty members. Also, it has 2 laboratory experts and 1 technician who work in the research departments, laboratories and dissection hall.
The department launched the first master's course in anatomical sciences in 2010. Also, in 2011, the Nervous System Stem Cells Research Center was launched, and its approval in principle was obtained from the relevant ministry in 2013.
Department of Anatomical Sciences includes three departments: Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, which, in addition to teaching courses in the Faculty of Medicine, is also responsible for teaching courses in other faculties of Semnan University of Medical Sciences, including the faculties of Dentistry, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Paramedicine, Health and Emergency Medicine. In addition, this group is also responsible for teaching anatomy courses in the postgraduate courses of various basic science groups. They are conducting extensive research on stem cells, IVF, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases, pain and its mechanism, embryo culture, benefits and side effects of herbal and traditional medicines. the synthetic and restoration of nervous tissues, eyes and retina, etc.
The result of conducting part of this research is the publication of numerous articles in domestic and foreign prestigious magazines and the presentation of many articles in exhibitions and congresses inside and outside the country.
Goals
- Observing regulations and ethical- religious principles of respect for the human body and tissue and protection of the department's resources and equipment

- The methods of examining graduates and holding exams
- Producing software and CDs
- Fixing the corpse, optimal preservation of corpses, tissue remains and dissection of the corpse
- Preparing educational microscopy slides
- Preparing and completing embryology and anatomy museum
- Implementation of research projects
- Setting up research laboratories
- Presenting articles in national and foreign seminars and conferences
- Publishing articles, scientific books, translation of books, cooperation in editing magazines and scientific books
- Cooperating with educational- research centers, institutions, domestic and foreign industries, presenting joint plans, obtaining grants, and attracting financial resources outside the university.
- Judging articles, plans and research theses
- Participating in various conferences and workshops and distance learning
