Pathology or Dental and Maxillofacial Pathology is a specialized field of dentistry that uses the various sciences of medicine and combines it with specialized dental topics to study, and recognize the nature of oral, maxillofacial diseases, including adentogenic lesions, bony lesions , growth-development lesions, mucosal skin, salivary glands, etc.
Oral and maxillofacial pathology is taught theoretically and practically, and allows general dental students to learn about the types of benign and malignant lesions of the mouth, jaw and face, as well as the oral manifestations of systemic diseases.
In this section, the slides of different types of oral and maxillofacial lesions, including edentogenic, bony, growth-developmental lesions, mucosal skin, salivary glands, etc., are provided to students and are explained in detail. In addition to practical classes, the group also participates in the teaching of diagnostic dental units, pulp and peripheral complexes, systemic diseases, infection control, and caries studies to professional dental students. Also, this group cooperates with Kosar Hospital in Semnan to investigate the histopathological biopsy samples related to oral lesions.
Oral and maxillofacial pathologists treat patients, conduct research and diagnose diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical or other examinations.
