Flow cytometry Laboratory

Flow cytometry is an accurate and high-performance method used to identify cells and evaluate their characteristics. This technique is based on the scattering of light by the tested cells and the emission of fluorescence from them. Fluorescence emission is achieved by direct use of fluorochromes that bind to cellular components or a combination of fluorescent dye with monoclonal antibodies. These fluorescence-conjugated antibodies can track and bind to surface molecules or internal compounds of cells and enable identification of the types of cells in a diverse cell population by flow cytometry. Flow cytometry is widely used in research departments and in diagnostic laboratories and is used to diagnose and determine the prognosis of diseases as well as to evaluate the treatment of malignancies.
The Cancer Research Center of the Semnan University of Medical Sciences is equipped with a flow cytometry device of the Partec brand and the CyFlow space model. This device has blue and red lasers and four channels.
