Isokinetics Laboratory

Location: Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Research Center

Year of the Establishment: March, 2010

Major Specialized Equipment: Biodex 4pro isokinetic system.

Research and Educational Applications: Accurate evaluation of upper and lower limb joint movements and pelvic area during eccentric, concentric and isometric muscle contractions at different angular velocities and accelerations that can provide real and accurate information about the ability to control the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and motor learning systems. Also, this laboratory is used to measure muscle torque at different speeds and calculate the acceleration of motion. Therefore, it is possible to use the highly advanced and accurate capabilities of the device to determine the effect of rehabilitation interventions in improving the musculoskeletal activity of cardiovascular, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and neurological patients.

In the field of education, the capabilities of the system can be used to teach how to control isometric, concentric and eccentric muscles in performing joint movements with different angular velocities along with measuring the torque produced by the force produced in all joints of the lower and upper limbs.

In the field of therapy, this laboratory makes it possible to increase the ability and range of motion as well as the strength of the muscles of the upper and lower limb joints separately with isometric and isotonic contractions, either eccentrically or concentrically.
