Bilateral ureteral reflux operation in Amir-Al-Mominin Hospital
Public Relations of Amir-al-Momenin Hospital:
The successful operation of bilateral urinary reflux was performed for the first time by Dr. Elahe Shehab, kidney and urinary tract surgery specialist, and Dr. Hemati, an anesthesiologist, in Amir-al-Mominin Hospital.
A 9-year-old girl underwent surgery with the diagnosis of primary and repairable reflux. This diagnosis was due to severe bilateral reflux and repeated urinary tract infections (UTI), which led to fever and numerous hospitalizations to receive antibiotics.
Dr. Shahab said: normally, it is not possible for urine to return from the bladder to the ureter and from the ureter to the kidney. In reflux, the urine returns upward to one or two ureters, and if the reflux is not treated in time, it may lead to the arrival of bacteria to the kidneys which leads to kidney failure.
